Having completed your TCP course, now you are ready to direct traffic? Wrong! As in so many professions, the obtaining of the TCP ticket is the beginning of the journey, not the end. It is only with experience and ongoing training will a person pick up the wisdom and ‘street smarts’ to will make them a good flagger. The Ansan group recognizes that fact.
A new TCP at Ansan is introduced to the Dispatch team who take them under their wing. It seems informal but there is a program. Initially new TCP’s are paired with experienced co-workers and assigned to work sites that are more straightforward. This continues for 100 hours and more and reports from the experienced TCP are reviewed. The new worker is not dispatched alone until it is felt they have grasped the fundamentals and know the procedures to be followed.
